RE: Train Station Canopy
I have to say that it looks pretty scary to me. I stand under it every morning wondering whether it's going to come crashing down at any moment. I think it's a good thing that they are tearing it down but I suspect that due to the cost, a replacement will not be put up - or if it is then it will be much smaller

Indeed it does move a bit and must be extremely heavy. It's hard to see what they're up to in respect of the work that's taken place already. I tried to find a planning application for it but there doesn't seem to be one. The planning engine on the council website goes back several years and covers other alterations to the station but nothing to do with the canopy.
It shows an application in 2002 for a cash machine in the station, don't think this ever appeared, though I notice Sainsburys now have one in the remodelled store (which has a planning app located here).

RE: Train Station Canopy
Just to let everyone know, I've emailed FCC and asked them what they intend to replace the canopy with, if anything.
Once I get a response I will let you know...

RE: Train Station Canopy
Well First Capital Connect have still not replied - even after I chased them up and they said that they would get back soon last Tuesday.
I have found on Network Rail's site that:-
Quote:
- The canopies, which were originally designed and installed in the 1950s, have reached the end of their working life and will be replaced with a new steel frame structure which will support the steel sheeting roof. The old canopies will be recycled.
- Work will start on 8 and 9 April and will continue on eight successive weekends.
- This is an exciting time for Potters Bar station with many more improvements planned over the coming months including refurbished toilets and waiting rooms, new platforms shelters, enhanced CCTV and additional help points.
