Designate PB Station as Zone 6
So with Boris pushing for all London main line rail to accept Oyster Pre Pay from May 2009, now is absolutly the time to lobby for rezoning Potters Bar Station into Zone 6.

But why should FCC want to do that? They must make a fortune from people travelling on the fast trains to Finsbury Park and Kings X. Lets face it...if we had to use the slow trains it'd be a pain, so the last thing we'd want is for them to move PB into Z6, but stop the fasts from calling at PB.

The case has to be made that PB is nowadays essentially in London, and that the train companies are unfairly hammering PB commuters by keeping it out of the London zones.

I'm going to email the following. 5 mins of effort now *might* mean considerable savings in the near future.

TFL: enquire@tfl.gov.uk
OYSTER: contactus@tube.tfl.gov.uk
FCC: customer.relations.fcc@firstgroup.com
GRANT SCHAPPS (Wel Hat MP): grant@shapps.com
JAMES CLAPPISON (Hertsmere MP): mark@tory-herts.org
MAYOR OF LONDON: mayor@london.gov.uk
LONDON TRAVELWATCH: enquiries@londontravelwatch.org.uk

Generally, i'm happy with the service provided by FCC. In my opinion the service IS better than when WAGN ran the line. The trains and stations are cleaner, and the puncuality is as good. OK, so the price has gone up, but that would have happened anyway.

However, £6 for an off peak return to Finsbury Park is way too much, especially as you then have to pay another £2 or so on Oyster Pre Pay to continue into town. If PB was in Zone 6, it'd mean £3.50 off peak single to town.

RE: Now is the time to lobby to get Potters Bar station into Zone 6
I had a reply from Grant Shapps. He's also going to write to Boris.

I've been thinking about this some more, and i'm wondering if they might extend Zones 7, 8, 9 and 10. They're currently the zones for the western extremities of the Metropolitan Line.

However, if these zones were treated like Zones 1-6, and made to surround London in outer circles, Potters Bar would easily fall into Zone 7. This would mean a single Oyster fare of £4.50 to Z1, which I think is perfectly reasonable....especially when you remember that your Pre Pay card will max out per day if you reach the cost of a One Day Travelcard.

Hello,

Did everyone read the article in the Evening Standard on Tuesday 06/01 regarding 'Fare zone review'?

Heres the link;

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/a...article.do

I too, think the time is right for PB to be included in Zone 6.

We should all 'up' the lobbying as other towns are doing. We have a genuine case.

We're only 11.71 miles from Kings Cross!

Surbiton (12miles-Zone 6) & Kingston, for example, are being reviewed to be changed, so why not PB!

Contact ALL of the following & show your support for a review:

TFL: enquire@tfl.gov.uk
OYSTER: contactus@tube.tfl.gov.uk
FCC: customer.relations.fcc@firstgroup.com
GRANT SCHAPPS (Wel Hat MP): grant@shapps.com
JAMES CLAPPISON (Hertsmere MP): mark@tory-herts.org
MAYOR OF LONDON: mayor@london.gov.uk
LONDON TRAVELWATCH: enquiries@londontravelwatch.org.uk

Lets get onto it!

Cheers

I see they seem to have Boris' ear to try and bring Cuffley into Z6.

I don't think it'll happen though. He might have the power to suggest stuff to the rail companies but ultimately they need to agree it, and what would the benefit be for them?

That and the fact even Boris admitted when they do finally start accepting Oyster at rail stations in the zones, the fares won't necessarily be the same as those from tube stations in the same zones!

RE: Designate PB Station as Zone 6
I was told recently by a bus driver that the Oyster area would be further improved by stopping at Potters Bar station.
Therefore, the end of the route for the 298.Sad
Hourly services beyond Cranborne Road in the evening and all day Sunday.Sad
So if Potters Bar becomes zone 6, what of the price beyond, on the bus? Huh
As for Hertfordshire buses.Forget it.
I hear all this rhubarb about the environment, global warming etc,CO2 emissions and how much more effective public transport is as a people mover.
This is always followed by reduction in services.
Getting a possible in reduction in train fares is great.
Paying parking fees, cab fares or waiting endlessly for a bus AINT.
It seems remarkable that we're told continually to use public transport, but then only given half a serviceMad

See there are more mutterings about moving the station into zone 6. It would be great, but the people who have final say - the rail company - won't be so interested!!

I'd love to see it happen. But don't get your hopes up!!

As for the 298 - it's already been pulled back from South Mimms to Cranborne. I expect each time they shorten the route it means they can drop a bus off it. I didn't buy the fact the 398 was extended to go to Borehamwood - the two aren't compatible in terms of fare - once you change, you pay again Sad

RE: Designate PB Station as Zone 6
Hi there, this is my first message, I got a job offer at potters bar and I am looking for the best way to get Potters Bar without making relocation from London Bridge area option necessary.
As far as I understand this zone 6 issue makes train options impossible for me, I have to pay zone 1-2 to get Moorgate or Finsbury Park then FCC ticket to Potters Bar makes it really expensive. If I take Zone 1-6 ticket then I come to Cockfosters and then I can take Bus Route 298 withouth paying extra money (*) for a bus ticket. Is that right? Is that scheme still valid? Is that the best option guys?
Thanks...

Just get a FCC ticket from Potter's Bar direct to Moorgate, then walk.
