What do you think of the road surfaces in general in Potters Bar?

My main concern is the appalling state of Dancers Hill Road, in peticular near Norfolk Lodge School. I see that have made a half herted attempt to patch some of the worst pot holes, but realy the whole road needs re-surfacing.

Tbh, I find road surfaces over the whole of the UK a problem. There are potholes and all sorts of problems.

One of the things I hate is when councils go over roads with a thin layer of some kind of asphalt. Some of these roads (eg. Mymms Drive in BP) melt even in the recent heat we have been having.

I travelled to Portugal a while back and in their boiling heat the roads were perfect. There was resurficing one day but it was done quickly and neatly. It puts our vechicle transport system to shame (especially the Motorways they have, although they are tolled).

Angry Yes the potholes are disgusting in Dancers Hill Road. Its a wonder it doesn't muck up the suspension of our cars. Mind you someone said that they were scheduled to do it about the time that Mutton Lane and Baker Street were being done. That was a nightmare and took months to get finished, and a while ago still some of the drains in the road hadn't been filled in properly. Not noticed if they've been finished off now!

Awful, and the footpaths are bad too. I reported a fault to the council about the state of one footpath. They did take the time to ring me back but said lack of funding means the footpaths won't be resurfaced anytime in the next 2-3 years.

Meantime the 5% increase in council tax arrived! What on earth are they doing with the money!! I asked my boss for a 5% raise this year but sadly "it doesn't work like that" so I only got 2.5%. The council must think we're they're personal piggy bank!

Regarding road surfaces. Hard lines if you live in a short no through road. Richmond Road has ONLY had sporadic patching in the last 34 years. It is breaking up, and the loose gravel is blocking drains. The pavements were only done after cable tv people destroyed them.
When I see a road in the area that have been resurfaced I begin to wonder if a local councillor lives along it!

:o Good point. They seem to like getting their own way and don't care how they get it!! Backhanders are the order of the day I reckon, or perhaps they are members of the funny handshake club! LOL

Sad git that I am, I happened to be reading the planning applications page on the PB Times (You know the paper that seems to cover every event in Barnet without so much as a mention of PB!!) When I noticed that Dancers Hill would be closed for re surfacing very soon. So good news for everyones car suspension there!

Spot on the only road I know to have been resurfaced without it having acquired a 27ft crater is Tempest Avenue. Guess what a Councillor lives at the junction of Tempest and Mandeville

Anyone noticed how bad the roads are in Potters Bar. We a damaged flat tire hitting a pothole in Mutton Lane. Council have rejected the claim saying not their issue.Thumbdown

RE: Condition of Roads in Potters Bar
Yes it's been really bad since the ice and stuff, I read somewhere any filled in potholes will have the bungs removed by the water which seeps in freezing and expanding. There's a huge one on mutton lane going away from South Mimms somewhere. Also Trotters Bottom has been like a tank-testing track for months now. There were signs up saying they were to resurface it in the summer but the signs got taken down and when I contacted the council they said the work was more than they expected so it has had to be re-planned?!

I damaged a tyre there going to work on xmas eve last year but didn't bother with the council because I knew it would go nowhere. Stupid driving my own car, work would have paid for a taxi or hire car then it would have been someone elses problem Sad

RE: Condition of Roads in Potters Bar
Yes, the snow and ice has produced some bad potholes.
If you're interested in what roads are scheduled for attention in the next five years one can look at the papers presented at the Highways Joint Members Panel Meeting which are held quarterly at Hertsmere Civic offices - joint members because it includes county and borough councillors. http://www2.hertsmere.gov.uk/democracy/i...9&MId=9090 links to the last meeting. I have attended these meeting a few times and am impressed by the thoroughness of the meeting and its papers, but like others dissappointed by the state of the roads - it is generally accepted that there is quite a backlog of work due to insufficient maintenance in the 90's. The comments about Trotters Bottom above are correct, and this road has had mentions at the last few meetings - if only because it is the route that most Potters Bar councillors use to get to the meeting!
