Darkes Lane Closure 15th Feb to 26th Feb 2010
The Potters Bar Times (27/1/10) seemed to be a bit lacking in information in its report. I went to a Herts Highways meeting on 26th Jan. I think the following is an accurate record of the details they gave:
The work will be done in 3 phases from The Mountway to the Admiral Byng roundabout. It is to dig out 8 inches of surface, then refill. During half term week, the section of road being resurfaced will be closed between 9am and 5pm. The following week, it will be 9.30 to 4.30pm. The Admiral Byng roundabout will be closed for 1 or 2 working days - which will close Manor Road, and the service road behind the shops for the 9/9.30am to 4.30/5.00pm period. I assume the phasing is such that those that live in roads from The Avenue to Mountway, will maintain a vehicle route to and from their home. Some drainage work is also being done at Admiral Byng. Its costing £200,000.

The suggestion in the paper was that no vehicle access would be possible at all during the works and alternate running with lights or whatever wasn't possible due to health and safety. Is that bit correct?

No vehicle access: will be possible to & from houses having the road done at the bottom of their drive. And no access to/from Manor Road while Admiral Byng roundabout being done. I assume everyone who this effects will have to move/leave their cars outside the effected area and walk the rest. Remember it is only the working day 9/9.30 to 4.30/5pm.
One way traffic: Yes this was ruled out on safety grounds. And perhaps it was judged that traffic light controlled one way would not cope - so better to close completely. Buses being left with the biggest problem. Also the width of those machines must present a problem.
Night working: was ruled out on residents noise impact
